{Giveaway} Matthew West’s All In CD

Hi Everyone!

Fall has arrived and what better way to celebrate than to share with you about Matthew West’s newest album, All In!  I’m a huge fan of his songs, so when the opportunity came to review this album, I was most definitely all in!

download-2

Let’s learn more!

Matthew’s heart behind the album:  Matthew wrote his new album All In with the goal of encouraging himself and others to get up off the sidelines of their faith and really live it out – to go all in in your time with God, all in with your family, all in with your community, and all in battling your fears that may hold you back from becoming who God made you to be. Along that same theme, Matthew will be launching a 6-week All in Challenge on his social media (started on 9/18), and each week Matthew will be challenging his fans to go all in in a different part of their lives. What does it look like when a heart that knows Jesus takes a step and holds nothing back? How can we go All In in the places that mean the most?

As a family, we’ve been listening to these songs in our car and as a mom of two young kids, it warms my heart to hear my children singing along.  Our 10 year old will request track #3 (All In) from our 6-cd changer and his favorite song from the album is Amen.  One of my favorite songs is The Sound of A Life Changing.  It’s hard not to love a song that references Steven Curtis Chapman, while evoking sweet memories of going to concerts with your favorite Christian artists headlining.

Phil Wickham “Children of God” Album

Long before I saw Phil Wickham live at the Worship Night in America event, in Sacramento last August, I was already so familiar with many of his songs played on Christian radio station KLOVE.  Though a fan of his songs, At Your Name, Glory, and This Is Amazing Grace, I had never previously owned a Phil Wickham cd.  Something changed after seeing him perform This Is Amazing Grace on stage and in person.  It was, to simply put it…Amazing!  The entire Worship Night in America was amazing…

The next day, I ordered my first Phil Wickham cd, The Ascension, because it had the song, This Is Amazing Grace, on it.  It quickly became a well-listened to album during our car rides.  When the opportunity came along to receive and review the latest album by Phil Wickham, I excitedly  jumped at the chance to score a copy of “Children of God.”  Thanks FlyBy Promotions!

910XM4DXNpL._SY355_

Children of God is becoming another well-listened to cd in our home…or in this case, my minivan.  Though my four year old would rather listen to her Awana Cubbies cd, I tune into Children of God almost daily and both my kids are witnessing my head boppin’ and body movin’ to the sounds of “The Secret Place” and “Your Love Awakens Me.”

My son especially loves Your Love Awakens Me and has asked me to “play it again, Mommy.”

Another favorite song on this album is “Doxology//Amen.”  I used to sing the Doxology at church every Sunday morning during my childhood.  I love this contemporary version of the song.  It feels like I’m sharing a very special part of my childhood with my own kids.

I am really enjoying this newest album by Phil Wickham and am so blessed that it has been added to our music library.  I hope to see him in concert again very soon!

{Giveaway} Captive Dvd

Here it is…my first giveaway of 2016!  A dvd copy of the movie, Captive.

images

DVD Release Date: January 5, 2016

Runtime: 96 minutes

Rating: PG-13 (for mature thematic elements involving violence and substance abuse)

OFFICIAL WEBSITE | FACEBOOK | TWITTER

About the movie:

Based on a miraculous story about the power of faith,  Captive is an “amazing, inspiring” drama about the spiritual collision of two lost souls, Brian Nichols (Golden Globe Nominee David Oyelowo), on the run from police and desperate to make contact with his newborn son, takes recently widowed mother Ashley Smith (Kate Mara) hostage in her own apartment.  Fearing for her life and desperately hoping to see her daughter again,  she turns to Rick Warren’s The Purpose Driven Life for guidance.  Ashley and her captor face a crossroads where they discover hope and light in the midst of despair in the moving film that Dick Rolfe, CEO, Dove Foundation hailed as “powerful.”

There are over 30 minutes of bonus content on this DVD including Journey Through Darkness: Filming Captive and Faith and  The Purpose Driven Life.  Also included with this DVD is a Digital HD copy that can be instantly streamed and downloaded.

From the depths of desperation and helplessness, comes freedom and purpose.

I first heard about this story through K-LOVE radio, so I  was already familiar with the ending prior to watching the movie.  What I didn’t realize or perhaps had forgotten, was the role that Rick Warren’s book, The Purpose Driven Life, played in these two lives.  During her captivity, Ashely Smith read a chapter from the book to Brian Nichols.  My husband and I liked the movie, but we both thought these particular scenes with the book could’ve gone a little deeper.  The movie does ignite my desire to read The Purpose Driven Life again.

I thought the acting from the entire cast was excellent.  Captive also does a good job showing the events that lead up to the hostage situation, with suspenseful scenes and heart-warming conversations between Ashley and her young daughter.  You get a really good sense of where these two main characters are coming from.

Easter Stories Book Review & Giveaway

easterstoriesEN

Easter Stories: Classic Tales for the Holy Season

By C.S. Lewis, Elizabeth Goudge, Leo Tolstoy, Oscar Wilde, Ruth Sawyer, Anton Chekhov, and others

I’m thrilled with this opportunity to introduce this book to you.  After having our two kids, Easter took on a whole other meaning.  It was no longer just about Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and heading to church on Easter Sunday, bright and early with hearts full of praise that Jesus Christ had risen!  After our children were born, my thoughts about Easter were consumed with finding the perfect Community Egg Hunt to take my children to or planning one of our own in the backyard, filling baskets with treats, chocolate bunnies and dyeing hard-boiled eggs.  With the busyness of making Easter fun for the kids, taking time to reflect on what the season is really about is important and good for the soul.  Easter Stories is a wonderful collection of 26 short stories that helps me focus on the true meaning of Easter.  I haven’t read the entire book yet, but it’s been good reading a story whenever I can.  Easter Stories will be treasured on my bookshelf for many years.  You will also have the opportunity to win a copy of this book by entering the giveaway below.

About the Book:   Everyone who believes Easter is about more than Easter egg hunts will be grateful for this new anthology of short stories that illumine the true meaning of the season. Selected for their spiritual value and literary quality, these classic tales capture the spirit of Holy Week and Easter in a way that will captivate readers of all ages. Parents and grandparents will find that children love to hear these stories read aloud, year after year.

Easter Stories includes time-honored favorites from world-famous storytellers such as C.S. Lewis, Leo Tolstoy, Selma Lagerlof, Oscar Wilde, Elizabeth Goudge, Maxim Gorky, Ruth Sawyer, Anton Chekhov, and Walter Wangerin – as well as many you’ve never heard before. Illustrated with original woodcuts.

{Giveaway}: Dolphin Tale 2

I am excited about this new movie, Dolphin Tale 2, coming to theaters on September 12, 2014.  I’ve always had a fondness for dolphins and have been fortunate enough to swim with them at Sea World and during my honeymoon in Hawaii.  I haven’t seen the first movie yet (I plan on renting it soon) but judging from the trailer below, Dolphin Tale 2 looks like an uplifting, feel-good movie that I cannot wait to take my family to.

dolphin-tale-poster-art

About the movie:
Inspired by true events, Dolphin Tale 2  continues the story of the brave dolphin Winter, whose miraculous rescue and recovery—thanks to a groundbreaking prosthetic tail—made her a symbol of hope and perseverance to people around the world and inspired the 2011 family hit movie “Dolphin Tale.” This film reunites the entire main cast, led by Harry Connick Jr., Oscar winner Morgan Freeman, Ashley Judd, Kris Kristofferson, and of course, the remarkable dolphin Winter as herself. Champion surfer Bethany Hamilton, who has been an example of courage, also appears in the film.
It has been several years since young Sawyer Nelson and the dedicated team at the Clearwater Marine Hospital, headed by Dr. Clay Haskett, rescued Winter. With the help of Dr. Cameron McCarthy, who developed a unique prosthetic tail for the injured dolphin, they were able to save her life. Yet their fight is not over. Winter’s surrogate mother, the very elderly dolphin Panama, has passed away, leaving Winter without the only pool mate she has ever known. However, the loss of Panama may have greater repercussions for Winter, who, according to USDA regulations, cannot be housed alone, as dolphins’ social behavior requires them to be paired with other dolphins. Time is running out to find a companion for her before the team at Clearwater loses their beloved Winter to another aquarium.

{Review and Giveaway}: RAGAMUFFIN: Based On The Life of Rich Mullins DVD

I grew up listening to Rich Mullin’s songs.  Some of my favorites are “Awesome God,” “Step By Step,” and “Sing Your Praise to the Lord” (recorded by Amy Grant).  Even while writing this post, I am reminiscing about my former youth group days of singing & listening to his songs and doing hand motions to the choruses.

Thanks to Flyby Promotions, I was able to watch a film based on Rich Mullin’s life, called RAGAMUFFIN.  Watching this film gave me a better insight into Mullin’s life, during his childhood days growing up on a farm, his college years, and then life in Nashville as a rising Contemporary Christian songwriter and artist.  You get a really good glimpse into Mullins’ heart, the things that he struggled with and his desire to point people to Christ our Savior.

The film is rated PG-13.  There are scenes with smoking, drunkenness and a little bit of violence, so I wouldn’t recommend watching this with younger children.  I thought the actors did a great job and I really enjoyed hearing his songs in the movie.  Make sure to watch the credits after the movie ends.  =)

4857_RagamuffinCoverNew_lgAbout the Film
RAGAMUFFIN is based on the life of Rich Mullins, a musical prodigy who rose to Christian music fame and fortune only to walk away and live on a Navajo reservation. An artistic genius, raised on a tree farm in Indiana by a callous father, Rich wrestled all of his life with the brokenness and crippling insecurity born of his childhood. A lover of Jesus and a rebel in the church, Rich refused to let his struggles with his own darkness tear him away from a God he was determined to love. As he struggled with success in Nashville and depression in Wichita, Rich desired most of all to live a life of honest and reckless faith amidst a culture of religion and conformity.

About Rich Mullins
Singer and songwriter Richard Wayne “Rich” Mullins was best known for his worship song “Awesome God” which has been embraced as modern classics by many Christians.  His music has been covered by many artists, including Caedmon’s Call, Amy Grant, Jars of Clay, Michael W. Smith, Third Day, John Tesh, and Hillsong United.  Mullins first solo hit, “Awesome God,” appeared on his third album and brought his music to a wider audience.  Rich Mullins was inducted into the Hall of Fame by the Gospel Music Association (GMA) on April 29, 2014.

Here is a trailer for RAGAMUFFIN

“Rich was a gifted songwriter with an amazing heart for people. This film reminded me that what really made Rich special was how undistracted he was with the things of this world. His was a heart yearning for God.” – Michael W. Smith Singer, Songwriter
“This film captures the life of one of the most important people in the history of modern evangelicalism, a ragamuffin that our children and our grandchildren need to know about.” – Shane Claiborne Author, Activist
Church Screening Tour
Thanks to a nationwide church-screening tour from January through May 2014, RAGAMUFFIN traveled to 200 screens where it was seen by over 25,000 people at churches, college campuses and even jails.

{Review and Giveaway}: Kirk Cameron’s UNSTOPPABLE

Why does God let bad things happen to good people?  There is so much pain and suffering in this world.  Doesn’t God care?  I’m sure you’ve heard these questions before or have even asked them yourself.  I know that I’ve thought about them as well.

When I heard about Kirk Cameron’s film, Unstoppable, I knew that I wanted to see it, because he addresses some of these questions.  Thanks to Flyby Promotions, I was able to view this film and have another copy to give away to one of my readers.

ABOUT UNSTOPPABLE
Inspired by the death of Cameron’s close friend who succumbed to cancer at the age of 15, Kirk Cameron takes viewers on an inspiring and hope-filled visual journey to better understand the biggest doubt-raising question in faith: “Where is God in the midst of tragedy and suffering?”

Going back to the beginning—literally—Kirk investigates the origins of good and evil and how they impact our lives … and our eternities. UNSTOPPABLE will prompt audiences to consider the role that pain and suffering has in our lives, as they affirm their personal views on faith, and encourage conversation starters about God, suffering, and hope.

In theaters for only two weeknights (Sept 24th and Oct 3th, 2013), UNSTOPPABLE: A Live Event with Kirk Cameron sold a staggering 260,000 tickets and reached a theatrical gross of over $3.2 million dollars. In just two nights this independent project sent a loud message – audiences want thought-provoking and meaningful entertainment.

Kirk Cameron is best known for his memorable role as “Mike Seaver,” a cultural icon of the 80’s, with his mullet hairstyle, cool glasses, and wisecracking comebacks. More recently he enjoyed much success with the No. 1 grossing inspirational film of 2008, Fireproof, and his recent documentary, Monumental. Kirk and his wife, Chelsea, were on-screen sweethearts during their Growing Pains years and are the founders of Camp Firefly, where terminally and seriously ill children and their families are provided an all-expense paid retreat (www.CampFirefly.com). Together, Kirk and Chelsea live in California with their six children.

“Where is God in the midst of tragedy and suffering? Why does God let bad things happen to good people?”  Since the fall of man, there has been pain, suffering and sorrow.  We are not immune to it.  We experience it ourselves in many different ways.  We see it happen to the people closest to us, to our neighbors, and to those around the world.  So where is God in the midst of pain and sorrow?  He is there…right beside us.  From the film’s behind-the scenes extras, Kirk Cameron shares with us a verse from Romans 8:28…”And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.”  God has a purpose for our lives and He uses our experiences to fulfill that purpose.  God’s purpose is UNSTOPPABLE!  We just have to trust Him.  He never said that this life on earth would be easy, but He did say that He would never leave us.  We may not have all the answers on this side of heaven, but we know that we can go to God when bad things happen and He will carry us through them.

I watched this film with my husband and we both thought it was pretty good.  Although the dramatizations were a bit long for me, I thought they were artistically well done.  I also liked how he included raw footage in this film, capturing the real, tender moments with his friends.

{Review and Giveaway}: Coming Home For Christmas

PastedGraphic-5 copy

I am excited to share about this dvd with you…Coming Home For Christmas, starring real-life sisters Carly McKillip and Brit McKillip, who play sisters Kate and Melanie in the movie.

About COMING HOME FOR CHRISTMAS

After their parents separate, two estranged sisters who haven’t been on speaking terms reunite in hopes that having a family Christmas all together for the first time in years will bring their Mom and Dad close again. They plan to do this in their old family home… the only problem is someone else lives there now.

This heartwarming story reminds us about the importance of family and forgiveness.  We often treat the people closest to us in the worst ways, don’t we?  It’s so easy to let grudges and bitterness drive wedges in our relationships, but forgiveness brings hope and healing to those we love if we just let it in.  The movie has a predictable happy ending, and I don’t want to give the ending away, but it’s one of those movies I would watch over and over again around the holidays.

I love that the story emphasizes that “family” can come in different forms, like in close relationships between friends.  =)  Some of the actors also sing in the movie, and they are all very talented.  I love hearing and singing Christmas songs during this time of the year.

Here’s a preview of the movie:

Coming Home For Christmas is available on DVD at Walmart.  I am also giving one copy away to a lucky reader!  The DVD includes a limited edition Norman Rockwell print!

Who is Norman Rockwell?  Rockwell was famous for his famous American culture illustrations and artwork. He was born in the late 1800’s and died in the mid 1900’s.
