Kiwi Crate: Ready, Set, Pin! Contest

A while back, Kiwi Crate hosted a contest called Ready, Set, Pin!  For a chance to win, you had to pin your favorite projects from Kiwi Crate’s DIY ideas onto your Pinterest Board(s).  So I started pinning away…project after project.  Their website has a lot of neat and fun ideas for DIY projects.  Well, the pinning paid off, because I won!  I won a gift certificate to Kiwi Crate and an Art Creation Station from Pottery Barn Kids.

These were the prizes from Pottery Barn Kids:

A Jumbo Wall Mounted Paper Roll.img83o

Easel Accessory Kitimg97oPBK also included a couple of extra things, like this apron…img58o…and Art Jar.img81o

Micah used red pipe cleaners from this art jar to accessorize his glasses for Awana’s Crazy Glasses Night.  He made eyebrows and a red nose.485509_10151635264072008_1192343462_n

I’ve used the Kiwi Crate gift certificate to buy some crates for the kids and to give as gifts.

The theme for the May 2013 Crate is Feathered Friends.  Watch this preview video for a peek into the crate.

Here’s my post about the fun we had with their Secret Agent crate.

Kiwi Crate: Secret Agent

Today, Micah and I spent some time working on Kiwi Crate’s Secret Agent crate.  It was a lot of fun to put together.  There were two projects: my periscope and my disguise kit.

We worked on my disguise kit first. They included materials to make two disguises.IMG_9011IMG_9012IMG_9013IMG_9015

Next, we made the periscope.  This project came with crayons for decorating the periscope, but Micah used the stickers from the disguise kit to decorate his ‘scope.’IMG_9018

Finished and all ready to use for ‘spying.’IMG_9021

The crate also came with an “explore more” booklet that had instructions on what you can use to create secret messages.  I think I’ll try some of these with Micah, like using a white crayon to write/draw on white paper and then scribbling over that message with a colored pencil to reveal what was written.  The message will appear in white.  Pretty neat, right?

With the special UV light pen and top secret notebook (included), Micah wrote a secret message to his daddy.  IMG_9023

Can you see what he wrote?  =)IMG_9026

Micah really enjoyed the Secret Agent theme and asked me to play “Spy” with him several times during the day.  Btw…he wrote “I ❤ YOU DAD” on his top secret notebook.

April’s crate is Caring for Earth.  Can’t wait for it to arrive!

Kiwi Crate: Pop-Up Shop Launch Party

Kiwi Crate hosted a party to celebrate the opening of their pop-up shop and we got to go!  The company is based in Mountain View, which is about a 40 min. drive for us.  I love that they are located in the Bay Area and that I can support them locally.

Once we walked through the doors, we were greeted with big smiles and friendly “hellos.” The kids were immediately drawn to the stringed balloons floating in the corner.  They actually spent a good amount of time laughing and playing with the balloons, unbeknownst to them that there were other surprises waiting for them in the other rooms.

In one room, you could decorate a pirate hat…Arrgh!, Aye, Aye Matey…Yo ho ho!  In another, there was a photo booth set up with cute props that you could use.  They had drinks and snacks to munch on.  We got to check out their new single crates collection and party favor collection.  Their crates look great online, but they look even better in person.  It was hard for me to choose which crates I wanted to purchase, but I settled on the Colorful Inspiration and Making Music.  I also picked up a couple of their party favors to give as birthday gifts.

We went on a tour of their facilities and at the end, the kids got to help finish packing some of the February crates that are being sent out.  That part was really neat to see and I was so happy that Micah got to experience it.  As we were leaving, they gave the kids each a goodie crate to take home.  There was a Kiwi Crate t-shirt, fruit snack, tattoos, and Kiwi rubber bands.  Thanks Kiwi Crate!

Kiwi Crate: Family Game Night “My Board Game”

Last week, we started on our Kiwi Crate Family Game Night.  We put together the “My Board Game” first and decided to save the “My Comet Toss” for another day.

All of the materials that you need for the projects are included in the crates and the instructions in the booklets are easy to follow.  Micah started off with decorating the game pieces.  He made a “Micah” and a “Rebekah” (his baby sister).  Then he colored the pictures on his game board while I helped him tear off the different colored squares that would be glued on.  When we finished, we played a few rounds of the game and Micah also got to play with Daddy after he came home.

Here are some pictures of Micah working on his game.
